The Spirit and Science of Using Your Breath to Heal and Reawaken Your Light, Strength, and Resilience

How many times have we heard that science and spirituality can’t co-exist? They are adversaries, not allies. Megan Callus, a preeminent expert in neuroscience-based breathwork, and owner of Boundless Breath NJ, knows differently. Her practice as a specialist and coach fuses her background in science with her personal understanding of spirituality.

When spirit meets science

While Callus is committed to disseminating scientifically grounded breathwork practices paired with her deep understanding of neurobiological trauma, she also relies on spiritual insights to guide her work. This unique and powerful pairing makes Callus adept in leading her clients through the challenges they face–from navigating trauma to managing anxiety to combating fatigue to addressing chronic illness. Through this work, her clients discover their inner strength and power to heal. They are empowered to nurture their health, renew their energy, and elevate their well-being.

Callus has experienced the benefits of breathwork herself, having struggled with deep insecurity and anxiety, as well as facing multiple traumas. Breathwork became a new way forward and a new license on life. “I found my calling and saw that few others had the expertise and knowledge in both the science and spiritual realms combined with a deep soul-felt desire to help others overcome their pain and find presence and peace in their day-to-day lives,” Callus says.

Finding the strength to pursue her path

Following her calling and pursuing the entrepreneurial path hasn’t always been easy. She had to accept financial insecurity for herself and her daughters as she built her business. “It has made me face every dark recess of my mind…Being an entrepreneur without financial backing is not for the weak of heart. The fear of failure can be overwhelming.”

To keep her grounded in her purpose and moving forward, she’s relied on her tools and has sought the wisdom and guidance of others. “I also connect to my higher self and trust in the divine path laid before me. That does not mean that I can’t become almost crippled by my fears and insecurities at certain times. But I honestly believe I was put on this planet to do this work.”

When she finds herself in a state of insecurity, she remembers she is here to serve and anchors herself in believing she can help another. That often allows her ego to fall aside and to take action. Additionally, she practices what she preaches and she trusts her higher forces (God, Divine, Universe) deeply. “I am on this healing journey along with all of my clients. Before, I thought it was supposed to be a linear path of work and success. It’s not. So, every day I change, grow, take steps backward, fall down, get back up, and try again.”

Appreciating the journey

For Callus, the entrepreneurial journey is learning to find some peace and joy in the process by staying connected with others, fully appreciating the changes she sees in her clients, and tapping into the radiant spirit within. “My belief that things are divinely orchestrated is far greater now than when I began this journey. I see myself deeply rooted in the spiritual side of my work and being part of a much larger collective of people with my role as the bridge that connects the science and material to the spiritual.”

Reawakening the light, strength, and spirit within Callus sees herself eventually working at retreats, running workshops, or speaking at conferences. Wherever business takes her or the Divine has in store, she knows her purpose is to help others use their breath to heal and reawaken their light, strength, spirit, and resilience.
